University Relations is sad to announce the departure of Digital Communications Director Shelley Keith, who has been at UMW since 2013.
We will bid her farewell at a campus-wide reception from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26. The reception will be in the cool and creative University Relations suite on the third floor of Eagle Village. Please come and see our offices, enjoy refreshments and wish Shelley well on her next venture.
On Nov. 1, Shelley will join Modern Tribe, a (mostly WordPress) development agency, as a strategist. In making the move to what Shelley believes are greener digital pastures, she will work with a team that supports a number of higher ed clients. And most important: She will remain in Fredericksburg and continue to purchase coffee and quiche at Blackstone.
We applaud Shelley for all her accomplishments at UMW. After initially evaluating the culture, resources and goals of the university, she then plunged into a much-needed formal content strategy initiative. During the process, the internally hosted umw.edu was fading and faltering. She oversaw the mammoth migration to an external server, and she began developing new user-tested messaging, site architecture and governance. The outcome of all of her efforts is evident in the first phases of the new site, which have been launching gradually since last August. Shelley’s lasting legacy to UMW is the sound of her voice on a series of training tapes expertly developed for site users throughout the university.
