February Excellent Eagle Employee: Congratulations to Evelyn Torres for being selected as the Excellent Eagle for February!  As one of her co-workers explains: “Evelyn demonstrates a genuine interest in the success of the entire UMW community. She provides patient and consistent guidance to students, in order for them to successfully graduate. She solves problems, trains co-workers and assists her department with the same patience and guidance. Evelyn is upbeat, friendly and projects a very positive and welcoming demeanor, all great qualities and demonstrative of an Excellent Eagle Employee!”

February SAC Meeting:  Our February meeting will be held next week on Thursday, Feb. 16, at 1 p.m. in Lee Hall, Room 412.  You do not have to be a member of the SAC to attend!  Attending is a great opportunity to not only meet with other UMW employees but also to observe and discuss important issues on campus.  Dr. William Crawley and Brian Jay Jones of the Great Lives Series will be the February guest speakers.

Safe Zone Training:  The Safe Zone program offers workshops that are designed to educate members of the University community about lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer (LGBTQ+) issues to increase the safety and inclusion of all its members. There will be two basic training sessions for any interested faculty or staff member on Tuesday, March 21, from noon to 2 p.m. and Wednesday, April 12, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m.  An advanced training will be offered on Tuesday, April 11, from noon to 2 p.m. Registration is required and space is limited. Please email Laura Wilson at lwilson5@umw.edu to register for one of the training sessions or if you have questions.

Black History Month: Colors of Africa will raise awareness and highlight Caribbean, African and traditionally African American culture through music, dance and food! Sponsored by the African Student Union, Brothers of a  New Direction, Students Educating and Empowering Diversity and Women of Color, this event is free and will take place of the University Center in the Chandler Ballroom at 6 p.m. this Friday, Feb. 10.

Coffee with the President: President Troy Paino will hold his first “Coffee with the President” on Thursday, Feb. 23, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Hurley Convergence Center Digital Auditorium. Stop by to share your thoughts and ideas about the University.

#1 F.A.N. (Fantastic Action Noticed) You can also recognize a colleague using HR’s #1 F.A.N. program. Did you experience exceptional customer service or awesome collaboration?
