A presentation by James Monroe Museum and Memorial Library Director Scott Harris is scheduled to air on C-SPAN3 on Saturday, June 10, at 5:15 p.m., and on Sunday, June 11, at 6:35 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time.

The presentation, part of a symposium entitled “James Monroe Presidential Inauguration: A Bicentennial Commemoration and Reflection,” explores the fifth United States president’s Revolutionary War service, work as a lawyer and path to the presidency, as well as the Monroe Doctrine. The event, tied to Monroe’s first inauguration, was hosted by the Mosby Heritage Area Association in Loudoun County in March.

Papers of James Monroe Editor Dan Preston, James Monroe Highland Executive Director Sara Bon-Harper and sculptor Gordon Kray joined Harris in speaking about various aspects of the Monroe legacy. The event concluded with a reception at the Monroe estate Oak Hill, hosted by owners Tom and Gayle DeLashmutt. Historic re-enactor Jay Harrison, as Monroe, provided an appropriately presidential presence.
