A message from the President

Dear colleagues,

Like you, I have followed the weekend’s news from Charlottesville with a mix of sorrow and anger. Add my voice to the chorus of those from around the country who have denounced the hatred, bigotry, racism, and senseless acts of violence visited upon Charlottesville.

The acts of these white supremacists remind us of the important work we must continue to do to build and sustain a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming campus community. Our country needs us to succeed in this work now more than ever. A commitment to diversity and inclusion is fundamental to our academic mission and public purpose to build a culture of broadly-based civic engagement.

Please join me at the all-university assembly in Dodd Auditorium on Thursday at 10 a.m. so we can discuss UMW’s vision on how we are going to do this important work with determination and courage at a critical time in our nation’s history.

Sincerely,

Troy D. Paino

President
