City Parking Changes Impact UMW Starting August 16

The Fredericksburg City Council passed some ordinances in late June that will impact UMW employees and students effective August 16, 2018.

A Resident Permit Parking (RPP) program will be implemented in the College Heights, College Heights South, and College Terrace neighborhoods. In order to legally park on streets designated as RPP (as noted by signage) Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., cars must display a resident permit sticker (in College Terrace the hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.).

While the UMW side of College Avenue will remain open parking, the College Heights side will be RPP except for the area between Dandridge and Rowe, which will be 2-hour parking only. The blocks in front of UMW properties on College Avenue (e.g., between William and Buckner and in front of the Steam Plant) will remain open parking. In College Terrace, there will also be 2-hour parking except by permit, Monday-Friday 7 a.m.-7 p.m.  See the attached maps for clarification.

Additionally, the Sunken Road gate will be open Monday-Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. during the academic year. Therefore, it will not be open during summer term or when UMW is closed.

Please review these changes in light of where you normally park and plan accordingly.
