Faculty/Staff/Contractor/Vendor Decal Re-Registration 2015

Faculty and Staff decals expire – July 1, 2015
Contractors/Vendors decals expire – July 31, 2015

UMW employees may re-register all current vehicles through the Eaglenet Portal beginning Monday March 2 – June 30, 2015. Contractors will have until July 30, 2015 to re-register.

Note: If a decal was requested and received after January 6, 2015, it is the new decal (oval shape) and is valid thru July 1, 2017. Once a new decal has been issued for a vehicle, the old decal will be invalid.

To request a decal through Eaglenet, follow these steps: Click on Banner Self Service, Select Personal Information, and then click on Parking Management System.

Any group needing assistance should contact Robin Jones, (540) 654-1129.

Parking Deck Designation Change

Beginning immediately, the University is issuing a change of use in the Alvey Drive parking deck.

  • Level #4 (top level) of the parking deck will be reserved for campus visitors only (there is no longer any Faculty/Staff parking on level #4).
  • Levels #1-3 will be available for all UMW registered vehicle (as is the status of the surface lots beyond the deck).

Deck painting and signage will be updated shortly to reflect these changes. Questions? Call (540) 654-1129 or email Robin Jones at rjones@umw.edu.

March is Procurement Month!

Governor McAuliffe has issued a proclamation to recognize March as Governmental Purchasing Month in Virginia. Each year, March is set aside as a time to advocate the role of the public procurement profession, and acknowledge the professionals that make a difference in governmental efficiency and effectiveness each day.

Did you know…
1)  You can find all of UMW’s contract information at your fingertips with our Public Contracts Portal, powered by CobbleStone Systems!
2)  The UMW state credit card program spending exceeds $8 million annually.

Special thanks to members of UMW Procurement Services Team!

Thank You, Facilities Services!

I want to extend my thanks and tremendous appreciation to the Facilities Services staff for the outstanding effort and commitment you displayed in clearing the campus during and after this week’s snow storm. The extremely low temperatures and wind made for very difficult working conditions. I’m not telling you anything you don’t know but that it is just plain hard work.

We sometimes forget how physically demanding your jobs can be. I would be remiss if I did not also give our housekeeping/custodial staff a huge “shout out’” as well. They were instrumental in maintaining doorways and high traffic areas in our buildings. Their efforts are ongoing as we continue to track in snow, ice, salt and sand. I’m partial to them but our crew in GW is top notch. The entire campus community is grateful.

Friday Jeans Policy Update

The Staff Advisory Council (S.A.C.) is pleased to announce that the President’s Cabinet has approved an update to the existing dress code policy which permits staff to wear jeans on Fridays. The policy now states: Jeans should be professional in appearance with no holes, slits, rips, or tears. Supervisors have discretion to determine appropriate dress, based on departmental business needs.

To review the complete policy, please visit BoardDocs. Employees are encouraged to consult with their supervisor to ensure that jeans on Fridays are acceptable.

The S.A.C. would like to thank Rick Pearce, the Vice President for Administration and Finance & CFO for requesting that the Council revisit this policy. We would like to remind you that you can do this as well. Please feel free to contact your S.A.C. representative with your suggestions. You may also submit suggestions anonymously by visiting our webpage suggestion box.

I would personally like to thank each and every one of our Staff Advisory Council members. Your participation and input was invaluable during the policy revision process.

Thanks,

Laura Allison
Staff Advisory Council President

University Gift Acceptance Policy

Vendors sometimes seek to express their appreciation for the University’s business by offering gifts, food, meals and invitations to parties. This can especially be true during the holiday season. The University’s Policy states that such offers are inappropriate and consequently are not accepted by the Procurement Services Department staff. We strongly encourage all UMW faculty and staff to abide by this policy.

The University is a member of the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP) and endorses and supports its Code of Ethics. In keeping with that Code and the Laws of the Commonwealth, and in the spirit of a professional public entity, the employees of the University cannot accept gifts of any kind from vendors. The University, as an Agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and its employees are subject to the Virginia Comprehensive Conflict of Interests Act as well as the Virginia Public Procurement Act.

We greatly appreciate your understanding and support of this policy. Vendors can best convey their appreciation by continuing to promptly provide high-quality goods and excellent, reliable services at the best possible prices.

Assistant VP for Business Services & CPO
