Buster-Williams Presents at National Enrollment Planning Conference

Kimberley Buster-Williams, vice president for enrollment management, presented at the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) SEM Conference in Washington, D.C. on Monday, November 12, 2018. Buster-Williams presented with colleagues Alicia Moore (Central Oregon Community College), Tara Sprehe (Clackamass Community College) and Jody Gordon (University of the Fraser Valley). The 90-minute session was titled, “SEM and Retention: A Perfect Pair”. The session was interactive and fast-paced. Presenters discussed a wide range of potential retention strategies and focused on these three aspects; access, progression and completion. The session was geared to those interested in more intentionally engaging in effective SEM-based retention work.

AACRAO’s annual Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) Conference provides participants with practical solutions, promising practices, training, research and guidelines for enrollment management practitioners looking to maximize student success, improve operational efficiency and enhance the financial well-being of their institution.

The SEM Conference brings together a comprehensive lineup of experts, researchers and practitioners who showcase core concepts that are the foundation of SEM, as well as new and best practices. Approximately 1,000 people attended this year’s conference.

Buster-Williams Nominated for AACRAO LEAD

Kimberley Buster-Williams, vice president for enrollment management, has been invited to participate in a new initiative called AACRAO LEAD. AACRAO’s new initiative called LEAD (Leaders in Enrollment Advancing Diversity) will take a multi-pronged approach at identifying and preparing a diverse group of enrollment leaders to take on leadership roles in Enrollment Management in North America and across the globe.

The LEAD initiative will kick off at the 2018 SEM Conference with a Monday evening reception hosted by Buster- Williams and colleagues who have taken the lead on inculcating diversity and inclusivity values in SEM.

At the reception, the hosts will introduce the AACRAO LEAD theme, which will be built upon at future events. Plans include:

  • A diversity leadership development program for mid-level professionals.
  • A webinar series.
  • A scholarship program for AACRAO’s SEM Endorsement Program.

AACRAO is a professional association of more than 11,000 higher education professionals who represent approximately 2,600 institutions in more than 40 countries. Its mission is to provide professional development, guidelines and voluntary standards to be used by higher education officials regarding the best practices in records management, admissions, enrollment management, administrative information technology and student services. UMW Welcomes New Director of Financial Aid

Tim Saulnier joined UMW on Aug. 27 as the new director of financial aid. Tim comes from the University of Lynchburg, where he spent several years in the same role. 

There, Tim worked to provide student-centered services and to actively build collaborative relationships across campus. He was instrumental in enhancing departmental operations while maintaining best practices in the area of financial aid.

Prior to Lynchburg, he spent six years in financial aid at UNC Charlotte. He is currently working on his dissertation focused on second-year retention.

 

Buster-Williams Published in College & University Journal

Kimberley Buster-Williams, vice president for enrollment management, had an article featured in College & University’s fall edition (Vol. 93, Issue 3). The article was titled “The Caterpillar Way: Lessons in Leadership, Growth and Shareholder Value and Demographics and the Demand for Higher Education.” College & University is AACRAO’s educational policy and research journal focusing on emerging concerns, new techniques, and technology in higher education. It is published four times a year.

 

 

Buster-Williams Publishes Chapter on Mentoring

Kimberley Buster-Williams, vice president for enrollment management, is author of a chapter entitled, “Onward: Reflections on Mentoring,” in the book Mentorship in Higher Education: Practical Advice and Leadership Theories, just published by AACRAO.

Scholarship Awarding Satisfaction Survey

The Office of Financial Aid and the Office of Advancement would like feedback from all system users, committee chairs and standard committee members regarding the scholarship awarding process. An email was sent to all system users, committee chairs and standard committee members with a direct link to the online survey. Buster-Williams Gives Keynote

Kimberley Buster-Williams, vice president for enrollment management, gave the keynote address at Paskill, Stapleton and Lord’s summer conference. The conference was titled “The Making of a Super Recruiter: Making Good Recruiters Great.”

The conference, held July 20-21, 2017, in downtown Philadelphia, was designed to provide top Admission talent “next level training.” Led by PS&L consultants, participants were challenged to develop better internal communication skills, become more articulate representatives of their institution, hone their sales skills, and to move beyond the basics of Admissions 101. Participants were led through a series of workshops, utilizing small group breakout sessions.

The title of Buster-Williams’ address was “No Mud, No Lotus: Becoming a Super Recruiter.”
