Budget Conversations with the President, Oct. 30

President Troy Paino will host the next “Budget Conversations with the President” informal gathering on Monday, Oct. 30, from 3-4 p.m. in Monroe Hall, Room 116Please note the new time for this meeting.  UMW faculty and staff are welcome to attend. This is a great opportunity to share your thoughts, concerns, and ideas concerning the University budget with the President. The final gathering is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 30, from 3-4 p.m. in University Hall in the Gates Hudson Building at the Stafford Campus.

President Troy Paino will host the second in a series of informal gatherings called“Budget Conversations with the President” on Monday, Oct. 30, from 3 p.m. to 4  p.m. in Monroe Hall, Room 116. UMW faculty and staff are welcome to attend. (Please note new time.) This is a great opportunity to share your thoughts, concerns and ideas concerning the University budget with the President.

The third gathering is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 30, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in University Hall in the Gates Hudson Building at the Stafford Campus.

Admissions Open House April 14 & Spring Break April 10-21

On Friday, April 14, 2017, University of Mary Washington will host an Admissions Open House. Approximately 315 prospective students (typically high school seniors, juniors and sophomores, as well as transfers) and their families will visit and tour campus between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The estimated guest count is 900 visitors.

A sample agenda is posted here. Visitor parking has been reserved in the parking deck off of U.S. 1 and on Double Drive. Primary event locations are the Anderson Center, Lee Hall, the Hurley Convergence Center, the University Center and campus/residence hall tours in Mason. Expect to see increased foot traffic on campus and curious newcomers at the Top of the University Center (fourth floor), especially between noon and 2 p.m.

In addition to welcoming a large crowd on April 14, you will see increased visitors attending daily information sessions and tours from April 10-21 as regional high schools will be on spring break.

While the Office of Admissions sponsors these events, the entire campus assumes the role of host. Our visitors frequently comment on how “friendly, helpful, and engaging” our UMW community is! Visitors shared the following about what they enjoyed the most during their recent visits to campus:

Admissions “Access UMW” Open House Nov. 12

On Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, the University of Mary Washington Admissions Office will host “Access UMW,” a diversity focused Open House. Approximately 140 prospective students (typically high school seniors, juniors and sophomores, as well as transfers) and their families will visit and tour campus between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.  The estimated guest count is 420 visitors.

Access UMW will include many elements of our traditional Open House programs: an academic and student showcase, tours of campus, and an overview of the admissions and financial aid processes. It will also feature some unique aspects such as a session on Diversity and Inclusion in Action at Mary Wash, access to the James Farmer Multicultural Center and a showcase of culturally based student clubs and organizations.

Admissions Office Events in November

The Admissions Office is hosting several events in November and you’re welcome to participate! Evening on-site admissions events will be held on Thursday, November 10 at Cambria Hotels & Suites in Rockville, MD and on Thursday, November 17 at the Cultural Arts Center in Glen Allen, Va.  Prospective seniors and their families are invited to join UMW staff, faculty, students, and alumni for an informal reception and program. On-the-spot admissions decisions will be available for seniors who submit all necessary admissions documents to complete their applications.

On Wednesday, November 16, high school guidance counselors from Virginia and the surrounding states will visit UMW and have an opportunity to participate in a one-day Counselor Workshop. Program components include an Admissions Committee Simulation, complimentary lunch in Chandler Ballroom (11:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m.), a UMW student life panel, a presentation about the “UMW First Year Experience,” and a campus tour.

In addition, on Saturday, November 19, UMW alumni and their applicants will visit campus for a Legacy Admission Event. The itinerary includes an information session and campus tour, complimentary lunch in the University Center’s fourth floor dining room (12 noon–1 p.m.), and a student life panel. On-the-spot admissions decisions will be available for seniors who submit all necessary admissions documents to complete their applications.
