Wendy Sulc, research assistant professor of pediatrics at the Mailman Center for Child Development/Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami, has been named Graduate-in-Residence for the University of Mary Washington’s Department of Psychology.

Sulc will visit the Fredericksburg campus for three days, including Thursday, September 20 for a public lecture, “Late Effects of Childhood Cancer Treatment: What They Are, What We’re Doing About Them, and Where We’re Going.” The talk will take place in Combs Hall, Room 139 at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
During her visit, Sulc will talk to psychology classes to discuss her work as a clinical health psychologist specializing in children with chronic and acute conditions such as cancer, sickle cell disease and HIV. She also will meet with students who are interested in careers in clinical psychology.
After graduating summa cum laude in psychology from UMW in 1998, Sulc received a doctorate in human services psychology with a specialization in clinical/pediatric psychology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Her research examines the effects childhood illness and its treatments have on the cognitive, emotional and behavioral development of children.
The Graduate-in-Residence program began in 1995 as a part of career advising within the psychology department, helping expose psychology majors to UMW graduates working in their field. Each year, the psychology department faculty nominates alumni who participate in interesting work in the psychology field.
