How are we doing? Those responses will soon come faster than before. The Department of Business Services is rolling out the use of quick response “QR” codes, and they are coming to a location near you.
QR codes are rapidly proliferating the pages of catalogs and mailings, they allow customers to be engaged through physical and digital communication channels. A QR code is scanned using a smart device; it gives immediate details about a product, service or general information. QR’s are more useful than a barcode because they store (and can digitally present) more data.
The first applications include a link to the Business Services “How are we Doing?” online survey and product information about a t-shirt in the UMW Bookstore. The sale of each shirt results in the contribution of a book to a village in Africa. To date, the project has been spearheaded by a small group within the EagleOne Center and Bookstore including: Jessica Thompson, Barbara Quann, Kathy Underwood and student employees Michelle Miller, and Joseph “Odie” Turner , with help and inspiration from Justin Webb, Executive Director of Enterprise Application Systems.
We are just scratching the surface of how they will be used and where they will add value to our campus community. Interested? Scan the following QR code to access our online survey.
