COPYRIGHT PROTOCOL FOR FACULTY
Want to use only portions of one or more books for your course, but don’t want students to have to purchase more than they will use?  Sometimes, a coursepack can provide the solution. The UMW Bookstore will obtain copyright permissions and work with the Copy Center to prepare packets for your courses.

Resources:

  • Complete the coursepack request form found here: COURSEPACK FORM & GUIDELINES
  • Understand the concept of Fair Use to ensure compliance with copyright law: FAIR USE
  • Copyright on Campus, the Basics (video)

Copyright and Canvas (contributed by Lisa Ames): Canvas uses an application called Scribd. When a new document is uploaded to Scribd, it is analyzed and checked against the “fingerprints” in their copyright database for infringements. If there is a significant match, the upload is removed by Scribd. Canvas users will see a removal notification in place of uploaded content. More information can be found here: SCRIBD SUPPORT

When in doubt, get permission! Contact the Bookstore at (540) 654-1649.
