UMW Relay for Life

January 28, 2015 by Lori Izykowski

relay-graphicRelay for Life is an all-night fundraising event associated with the American Cancer Society. This year the event will be held April 18-19 from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. on the Battlefield.  Relay is dedicated to raising funds to donate to support cancer research, and to support those undergoing treatment and their families.

During the week of February 2-6, UMW Relay for Life will be hosting a Kickoff Week. During the week registration is $5, 50 % off to the typical $10. Your registration goes to our overall fundraising goal. Even if you only come and walk a few laps, your participation is needed, wanted, and appreciated! The schedule for the week is as follows:

On Monday through Thursday we will be tabling at ‘the Nest’ to raise awareness of the UMW Relay event and to encourage students, faculty and staff to sign up and donate. We will have laptops at our table to sign up all participants.

On Tuesday, President and Mrs. Hurley will be hosting Bingo in the Underground at 8 p.m. Bingo players can purchase additional boards for $1 each up to four boards, after which donations will be accepted. All proceeds donated will benefit the UMW Relay for Life effort.

On Wednesday, Athletics will be hosting Purple-Out Basketball. Wear purple to both the women’s and men’s basketball games at 6 and 8p.m. The Eagles will be playing St. Mary’s!

On Thursday we will have our UMW Relay for Life Kickoff. Get excited, and be sure to come by and see us in Monroe 116 to sign up for the main event in April!

We will end the week on Friday wearing purple to support the cause. Let’s make the UMW campus awash in purple!

Please visit www.Relayforlife.org to donate and make a team! Search Fredericksburg, Virginia, in the search bar to find Relay for Life of University of Mary Washington.

Don’t forget that Relay Awareness Week is March 30 – April 3! If you are interested in participating in the jail and bail, please contact us at umwrelayforlife@gmail.com.  Please don’t hesitate to ask us any questions.

Thank you in advance for your help in creating a world with more birthdays. – UMW Relay for Life
