Hurricane Irma Relief for Monroe County, Fla., Oct. 6

The staff of The James Monroe Museum invites Fredericksburg area residents to join them in reaching out to help some of those most severely impacted by Hurricane Irma.

As the museum staff considered how they could help those in need, they thought of focusing their efforts on Monroe County, Florida, established on July 2, 1823, and named after then-president James Monroe.

Members of the community may stop by the James Monroe Museum from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 6, to donate toward rebuilding efforts in Monroe County, Florida. The Middle Keys area of Monroe County was one of the hardest hit locations in the Keys. Many homes and businesses were completely destroyed by the storm. In order to help most effectively with the rebuilding, the museum will focus fundraising efforts on Habitat for Humanity of the Middle Keys and Lower Keys. Donations also will be accept during the museum’s First Friday event from 6 to 8 p.m. Checks can be made payable to Habitat for Humanity Middle Keys.

Everyone making a donation at the museum on Oct. 6 will receive a coupon for free admission for four as a way of saying thank you. Online donations also can be made directly using the “Donate” button on the website for Habitat for Humanity of the Middle Keys. In addition. a link to Habitat for Humanity of the Middle Keys is available at www.jamesmonroemuseum.org throughout the month of October.
