The University of Mary Washington’s Staff Advisory Council answered to the call of duty yet again with a school supply drive to benefit local area schools.
Among the donations contributed by the UMW community were 137 composition books, 32 backpacks, 38 glue bottles and 50 boxes of crayons.
“What a wonderful display from our UMW community. I had one administrator come by and ask if I had local stores donate items. I told him, no, this was all our UMW community folks,” said S.A.C. Activities Committee Chair, Priscilla Sullivan, who organized the event. “Given the state of the economy and subsequent belt-tightening, it is so heart-warming to see the generosity of our UMW family.”
The donations will be divided up amongst the neediest elementary schools in the local area. This is the third school supply drive organized by UMW’s Staff Advisory Council.
