On July 18, 2011, the University received three gifts totaling more than $42,000 from the estate of the late Anne F. Hamer. For decades, Mrs. Hamer was involved with music around Mary Washington and in the Fredericksburg community. She was an associate professor of music and a chair of the music department. She played with the Mary Washington College – Community Orchestra, performed at local historical events, and often played at weddings. She also was proud to be a member of the UMW Heritage Society. Her planned gifts now will help support the Anne and Sidney Hamer Music Award, the Fund for Mary Washington, and the Department of Music.
Hal Hamer said his mother was an active planner and was very specific in her estate planning efforts. Shortly before her death in 2008, she told the family, “Life has been very good to me, and I hope that I have been very good to life.”
