The newest addition to the Mary Washington Police Department has started a buzz on campus – it’s a T3 Series electronic standup vehicle (ESV) that resembles a Segway but with three wheels.
“It’s a great conversation piece,” said James DeLoatch, police department business manager.
Officers have already started experimenting with the zero-gas emission ESV so that they will be comfortable with the vehicle when the students arrive in two weeks.
DeLoatch said officers will patrol up and down Campus Walk on the ESV.
The addition was President Hurley’s brainchild, as one way to make the police department more accessible and approachable.
“We’re excited,” DeLoatch said. “We want to see how students will respond to it.”
