“REDUX: Repurposed Materials” will feature pieces by artists who have incorporated unconventional and discarded materials to create works that push the traditional perception of art. The modern works of artists Danny R.W. Baskin, Harriete Estel Berman, Michael Booker, Mitra Fabian, Zac Freeman, Sayaka Ganz and Bart Vargas comment on a variety of personal issues, convictions and associations, while serving as a reminder to viewers of the importance of being responsible with our use of resources.

“Contemporary Work in Fiber” features the work of eight artists whose individual works showcase the wide range and varied use of fiber in contemporary art. Pat Campbell, Jan Hopkins, Lewis Knauss, Patricia Mink, Angela Moll, Jóh Ricci, Jeanne Williamson and Pamela Zimmerman use a variety of materials and artistic processes including quilting, textile design, stamping and screen printing to show the unique products that are created when working with fiber.

Both galleries are located on College Avenue on the Fredericksburg campus and are open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. The galleries are closed during university holidays and breaks. Free parking for gallery visitors is designated in the lot on College Avenue at Thornton Street. For directions and more information, call (540) 654-1013 or visit http://galleries.umw.edu.
