UMW New Student Orientation Volunteer Sign-Up

The following message is from the Orientation Planning Committee: 

Dear UMW Faculty and Staff: 

As you are aware, in June 2013 UMW will host New Student Orientation for all incoming students. In planning for this program, the Orientation Planning Committee is looking for faculty and staff to assist with various roles and activities. The committee is asking for volunteers from all UMW Faculty and Staff to help partner with students and their guests as they transition to UMW. 

New Student Orientation starts on Friday, June 14, with Transfer Student Orientation  scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Starting on June 17, there will be six sessions for first-year students, each session lasting 1.5 days. A second Transfer Orientation is scheduled for Friday, June 21, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Listed below are the dates for the six First-Year Sessions:   

Session #1: June 17 & 18
Session #2: June 18 & 19
Session #3: June 19 & 20
Session #4: June 24 & 25
Session #5: June 25 & 26
Session #6: June 26 & 27 

Below are descriptions of each of the activities for which we need support, and approximate times are indicated. 

Description of Roles:

1)  Parking – assist with parking and directions for guests. Parking duties will start at 7 a.m. and conclude around 9:30 a.m. . 

2)  Greeters – talk with students and their guests and direct to programming as needed, stationed at various locations.

3)  Information Desk – there will be an information desk in Lee Hall throughout orientation, and assistants are needed.

4)  Family/Guest Reception – representatives from various offices are needed to interact with families and guests during a dessert social from 6-7 p.m. on Day 1 of First-Year Orientation.
