New Social Media Policy

You’ve heard it before – we’re a small university with a big heart. And what better way to express our heart than through social media.

UMW’s more than 130 social media accounts (and we’re still counting) give us a voice to help spread the word about our master teachers, study abroad experiences, athletic programs and everything in-between. That’s a lot of voices, telling a lot of stories, reaching a lot of people – and we’re proud of that.

To keep that social savvy thriving, UMW is introducing a new social media policy that applies to all UMW-affiliated social media accounts. More than just words on paper, the policy:

  •  Ensures proper portrayal, promotion and protection of UMW
  •  Brings the university into compliance with state social media laws
  •  Puts the university on par with the social strategies of peer institutions

How can you get on board? If you manage a UMW-affiliated social media account or supervise someone who does, review the policy and submit any accounts through the approval form.
