UMW Launches Virginia Teacher Scholarship

The University of Mary Washington has launched a UMW Virginia Teacher Scholarship for Graduate Education Programs.

The scholarship, which covers 15 percent of tuition, is available for Virginia residents who are educators working in a public or non-public PreK-12 school located in Virginia. Applications for the scholarship are being accepted for the spring 2016 term.

“The College of Education places more than 500 students a year in area classrooms as part of the program’s teacher preparation and training,” said Nina Mikhalevsky, interim dean of UMW’s College of Education.  “This scholarship is an important step in furthering UMW’s on-going partnership with local school districts.”

UMW offers a Master of Education for Professional Development with endorsements in gifted education, diverse student populations, educational leadership, literacy specialist, special education general curriculum and adapted curriculum, secondary mathematics and teaching English as a second language. A complete list of programs is available at http://education.umw.edu/programs/.

“The graduate education programs are designed for busy, working teachers,” said Mikhalevsky. “Teachers can study programs targeted to specific areas of professional development with schedules responsive to working adults.”
