UMW Supplier Expo…Save the Date

The University of Mary Washington Office of Procurement Services invites you to save the date for our second annual UMW Supplier Expo on March 8, 2017.

This will be a great opportunity for UMW Department Buyers to meet and network with vendors, learn about new products or services, and view product demonstrations. The event will be co-hosted by the City of Fredericksburg and Mary Washington Healthcare.

In October, members of the Procurement Team attended SWaMFest, an annual conference that brings together government purchasers and vendors to promote small, women-owned, and minority-owned businesses. UMW is committing to increasing SWaM spend and opportunities for these businesses.

VAGP Presentation

Michelle Pickham, Buyer Specialist for UMW, recently gave a presentation, “Contract Management Systems: From the Cabinet to the Cloud,” at the VAGP Fall Symposium in Fredericksburg. Michelle outlined the benefits of CMS to other government buyers, using UMW’s experience with Cobblestone as an example.

Modular Unit Removal

Annex B has been purchased, and the process for removal underway. Use caution when driving and parking along College Ave. in the area. Thank you to Dale Elethorp for facilitating the sale of the units, and Les Johnson for overseeing the removal.

Make Room for Turkey Sale

Thursday, November 17, the Bookstore will be offering hoodies, long sleeve tees, and sweatpants at amazing prices. The apparel is being sold on a first come, first serve basis as supplies are limited. The apparel is high-quality, and will be about half the price of the hoodies, tees, and pants we normally stock, so don’t miss out!
UMW Book Club

The UMW Book Club will meet from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16, in the Bookstore. The group will be discussing The Secret History by Donna Tartt. For more information, contact Margaret Mock at or x1017.

Upcoming Author Signing with Jon Pineda

On Wednesday November 16 from 4-6p.m., the Bookstore will be hosting an event celebrating our very own Jon Pineda! The event will be held inside the bookstore, and Professor Pineda will be here to talk about his collection of poems “Little Anodynes.” The event will be open to the campus community and the general public.

Social Media

The Bookstore has tripled its social media followers since the last eUpdate! The website is being improved daily to generate more revenue from online sales. We saw a 15% increase in web sales for the month of October over FY16, and hope to continue that upward trend through the holiday season. Don’t forget to follow on Instagram @umw_bookstore to stay up-to-date with sales and new merchandise.
