UMW student-run a cappella group The One Note Stand recently released a new single, “See Her Out,” which is available on Spotify and Apple Music and was recorded by Cutoff Studios in UMW’s Department of Music recording space. Originally recorded by Francis and the Lights, the song was arranged by former music director De’Toine Jones ’19 and the featured soloist is rising senior Shannan Mitchell.

Jones said, “‘See Her Out’ was actually one of the songs that I arranged for the group last fall. We wanted a song that we connected with and that showcased the strong qualities of our sound. We had always had an affinity for raw, emotion-driven songs, so this one seemed like a good fit. It talks about feeling trapped and hushed in a world where everything seems to be against you with no escape. Even so, you’re putting up a fight, constantly looking for your way out, breaking away from the censorship and striving for the better place you know is out there.”

In between rehearsing for their concerts each semester,  The One Note Stand recently qualified and competed in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) tournament for the third time in a row. The group also competed in other competitions throughout the year such as CNU’s Sing Your Heart Out, where it received awards for Best Arrangement, Best Vocal Percussion and won first place. One Note performs at events within the Fredericksburg community. This past winter, the group was a part of the Christmas program at the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church and sang carols at UMW Advancement’s Celebration of Giving.
