UMW Awarded Grant to Enhance Campus Emergency Preparedness
The UMW Police Department has been awarded a $154,284 grant from the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services to develop critical incident maps for all campus facilities.
The project will create standardized digital maps of campus buildings that can be shared with local and regional public safety agencies. These maps will help improve emergency preparedness planning, document emergency systems and equipment within each building, and provide first responders, public safety partners and University staff with consistent information to support coordinated emergency responses.
Building walkthroughs are scheduled for Nov. 10 and 11 as part of the final phase of the project. UMW staff will accompany the vendor during these walkthroughs. Once completed, the project will strengthen campus emergency preparedness and support more efficient, coordinated responses to emergency situations.
