Professor of Art History Julia DeLancey was featured in The Free Lance-Star in an article titled “Lecture set on Piazza San Marco.” The piece highlights her upcoming public talk, “Piazza San Marco, Venice’s Stage: Building Power, Facing Peril,” hosted by the Fredericksburg-Este Association.

DeLancey will explore how Renaissance Venetians – both those in power and those without – used the famed Piazza San Marco as a space for political and social expression. The lecture will also address modern threats to the piazza’s survival, including climate change and over-tourism.

The free event takes place on Friday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. at St. George’s Episcopal Church, with a reception beginning at 6:30 p.m. Read the article from The Free Lance-Star.
