Keith E. Mellinger, associate professor and chair of the department of mathematics, and former UMW student Jake Farinholt coauthored the article “Minimal generators for BCH codes” published in spring 2011 issue of The Pi Mu Epsilon Journal, an official publication of the national honorary mathematics society.

Alan Griffith, associate professor of biology, has accepted Provost Jay Harper’s request to chair the Quality Enhancement Plan project team. “Alan brings a wealth of experiences to this task and I have every confidence that he will do a wonderful job,” said Harper. Eighteen faculty and staff members have expressed an interest in working on the QEP project team, and team members will be announced soon. “I will strive to assemble a group that affords a diversity of perspectives, viewpoints, and experiences with and about the first year experience,” said Harper. Faculty and staff who have an interest in working on the QEP project should contact the Provost.

Donna Raab, senior director of advancement communications at UMW will be recognized by the National Federation of Press Women for her work on UMW Advancement reports at the NFPW annual conference, September 8-10 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. NFPW is a nationwide organization of professional journalists and communicators.
