March Excellent Eagle Employee: Congratulations to Tiffany Oldfield, J.D., Title IX Investigator, Diversity and Inclusion for being selected as the Excellent Eagle for March!  As one of her co-workers explains:  “Tiffany from the very beginning has been a valuable colleague. She stepped up right away reviewing our policy and procedures here in Title IX. She understands her role and continues to be asset, not only to our team but to the University. Now that the University has lost two key individuals in our department, she has agreed to take over the Title IX role once an investigator has been hired. But in the meantime she is doing so much of the work to keep us on task, in compliance, moving us in new directions, preparing copious amounts of material for another office (not affiliated with the University), etc. Her organizational skills, knowledge about law/policy and support has not gone unnoticed. I am not sure where we would be without her.”  Great job, Tiffany!  It’s easy to nominate your co-workers, supervisor or employees for the Excellent Eagle Employee award. Just complete the Excellent Eagle Employee nomination form on our website. Take some time to nominate someone today. Winners get reserved parking on campus for the month.

Green Zone Training Initiative

A “Green Zone” is a location recognized by veterans as a safe place. Student veterans and service members are a diverse group of individuals, ranging in age, race/ethnicity, gender, and backgrounds.  Please join UMW Green Zone volunteers in the Magnolia Room of the University Center on Wednesday, Feb. 22, from noon to 1:30 p.m. for veterans awareness training. The session will begin with a panel of student veterans providing their perspective on transitioning from the military to a college campus, and will then be followed by an open discussion on working with student veterans and service members to assist them with the transition to student life

As of this past spring, Virginia ranked fourth in states with the most active duty and reserve members of the military. It’s imperative that UMW staff and faculty educate themselves about working with student veterans and service members.

*Please feel free to bring your lunch to this training session.  We believe attendance may be high for this training session.  Anyone interested in attending should RSVP to Kevin Caffrey (kcaffrey@umw.edu).
