UMW Libraries will be celebrating their 75th anniversary as a Federal Depository Library on Thursday, March 10. The libraries will host a full day of events in the Hurley Convergence Center’s Digital Auditorium.
Morning and afternoon open houses will offer fun, food and freebies along with information about the government resources Federal Depository Library Program. These resources constitute approximately one third of the libraries’ collection.
Congressman Rob Wittman will open the 4:30 program. Andrew Sherman, U.S. Government Publishing Office Chief of Staff and Congressional Relations Officer, and Barbie Selby, Regional Depository Librarian, will then offer brief remarks.
The keynote will be delivered by Dr. Heather Ryan of the University of Denver’s Library and Information Science program. In addition to her academic work, Dr. Ryan serves as a Research Fellow for the Long Now Foundation, where she is advising on the Manual of Civilization project. The lecture is part of the UMW Libraries’ Rachael Wingfield DeAngelo Endowed Lecture Series. The afternoon program begins at 4:30 and will be followed by a reception.
The evening will end with a screening of National Treasure.
