Eagles Walk United/Walk to End Alzheimer’s

The 2015 Walk To End Alzheimer’s held at UMW on Sept. 26 was a huge success and has raised $104,000 to date (donations are still coming in through the end of October).  Special congratulations to every member of UMW’s Team Eagles Walk United, under the leadership of co-captains Susan Knick and Lindsey Elliott, for raising $2,222.  Team Eagles Walk United was awarded a plaque during the opening ceremony for having the largest number of registered walkers with a team membership of 61 walkers!

Volunteering their time and assistance at the walk were the UMW Field Hockey team, UMW Dorsey Scholars under the direction of Dr. Venitta McCall, members of the Dodd Auditorium Multimedia staff, and UMW students representing various groups on campus.

Walking with Team Eagles Walk United were UMW students, faculty, staff, retirees, alums, family and friends.  It was a glorious sight as the 750 assembled walkers departed Jefferson Square, passed through the Carmen Culpeper Chappell ’59 Centennial Campanile (bell tower), and down campus walk.

The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.  Thank you for your donations, for volunteering your time, and for becoming an advocate in the fight.  Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease, the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death.
