Snow Emergency Declaration Begins Today at 10 p.m.

The following message is from the Office of Parking Management:

The University has declared a snow/ice emergency on the Fredericksburg campus today, Wednesday, March 4.  University Snow Emergency parking regulations will be in effect at 10 p.m., March 4.  Please note that the Dahlgren campus and Stafford campus are under a separate snow/ice management plan.

No vehicles are allowed to remain in Snow Emergency Areas after 10 p.m. Any vehicle on University property interfering with snow removal operations is subject to towing at any time during the snow emergency declaration at the owner’s expense. This includes any UMW-assigned service/pool vehicles for all departments and contractor vehicles that are left unattended/overnight on campus during the declaration. Please move these vehicles to Sunken Road lots located outside the Alvey Drive Parking Deck or the Battlegrounds #33 lot located on Hanover Street.

NOTE – The following areas will close at 10 p.m. March 4, and will remain closed until further notice:

ACCESS TO THE ALVEY PARKING DECK WILL BE FROM THE SUNKEN ROAD GATE LOCATED ON SUNKEN ROAD BETWEEN GROVE AVENUE AND MADISON STREET. The following Snow Emergency Areas will reopen at 7 a.m. on March 5, unless the University is declared closed or moves to a delayed opening. Under either of these conditions, all Snow Emergency Areas will remain closed to parking until the University officially reopens.

  • All Faculty/Staff parking
  • Commuter parking
  • Top level of the Eagle Landing parking deck

In the case of public events, the lot in use for the public event will be closed as soon as the event concludes.

All designated handicapped parking spaces, except those at Woodard Campus Center, are exempt from Snow Emergency Regulations. Facilities Services will ensure those spaces remain accessible.

The greater Fredericksburg area is under a winter storm warning with the potential for significant snowfall and freezing conditions within the next 24 hours. If you plan to travel, please consider the potential road conditions. Decisions regarding the status of the University – classes, events, etc. – will be announced under a separate email if needed.
