U.S. voters do care what candidates believe; The Free Lance-Star

MITT ROMNEY’S religion matters. And so do the religions of all the other candidates. Whether you like it or not, the American electorate still believes that there is a religious test for public office. Contrary to Article 6 of the U.S. Constitution (“no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States”), American voters have proven time and again that a candidate’s religion is a matter of concern–or at least, interest.
