Hundreds of UMW staff members gathered in Woodard Campus Center’s Great Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 16 for the annual employee luncheon. The theme “It’s a Great Day to be an Eagle” was evident not only in the UMW-themed apparel of many employees, but in the upbeat atmosphere of the event.
Vice President for Student Affairs Doug Searcy kicked off the event with a video by Anand Rao, associate professor of English, linguistics and communication and director of the speaking intensive program.
Priscilla Sullivan, national testing and events coordinator, gave an update on the Staff Advisory Council’s activities, including upcoming nominations for members and two recognition campaigns.
The luncheon also served as the official kick off for UMW’s Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign. The campaign allows UMW faculty and staff to donate to local and regional non-profits, while supporting a state-wide initiative. Lori Izykowski, UMW’s CVC coordinator, has additional information about the campaign and how to get involved.
Two new recognition initiatives will begin on Nov. 1, members of the Human Resources team explained. The #1 Fan initiative will recognize effective interdepartmental collaboration and the Jeans Pass program will allow supervisors to reward outstanding employees with a pass to wear jeans for one day.
President Hurley ended the luncheon with an update on the university’s progress, including in the areas of the strategic plan, admissions and student engagement.
Lori Izykowski says
It was (and is!) a great day to be an Eagle!
