Temporary traffic detour on College Avenue

University Community and College Avenue Neighbors:

A major milestone in the construction of University Center will occur on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 6 and 7, with the delivery of the rooftop air handling units and their penthouse aboard six tractor-trailers. Because of the individual unit widths, the tractor-trailers which carry the segments will require special ‘over-wide’ vehicle movement along College Avenue from Eagle Village.

The traffic plan will work like this:

  • Six flagmen will be positioned at each road intersecting College Avenue (Snowden, Powhatan, Thornton, Seacobeck, Rowe, and Parcell) from Route 1. The flagmen will temporarily close access to College Avenue during the transportation. Vehicles on the side streets will be allowed to move north on College Avenue toward Route 1 once the truck has passed their particular street.
  • One additional flagman will be positioned at Payne St. and College Ave. to temporarily stop traffic going north on College Ave. toward Route 1. This detour at Payne St. will be 10-15 minutes while the tractor-trailer makes its way from Eagle Village across Route 1 and on toward University Center. Vehicles detoured at Payne St. can continue along Augustine Avenue to access Route 1.
  • Road closure time frames will be:

Tuesday 6 a.m.; 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.; 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.; 3 to7 p.m.

Wednesday 6 a.m.; 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.; 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
