Woodard/Mercer Construction Update

To the UMW Campus Community:

The renovations and additions to Mercer and Woodard Halls have begun. The construction will necessitate several alterations in vehicle and pedestrian traffic patterns. The initial changes are attached for your information. If patterns change due to new circumstances, you will be informed. The project is expected to be completed in July 2015. This work is disruptive for many of you and we sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding.

Renovations to Woodard and Mercer Halls – Access and Parking Update (May 2014)

Vehicular Access – That portion of Campus Drive north of Lot #15 (adjacent to Monroe and Willard Halls) will be closed to normal vehicular traffic for the duration of the project. However, this section of Campus Drive will remain open and accessible only for official deliveries to Woodard, as well as construction and emergency vehicles.

Pedestrian Access – Access to and from Woodard will be via the front of the building from Campus Walk only. The brick walkway between Mercer Hall and Palmieri Plaza will be closed to pedestrian traffic. The steps from the Sunken Road Parking Lot #13 to the north end of Mercer Hall will be closed to all student and pedestrian traffic for the duration of the project. The steps from the Sunken Road Parking Lot that lead towards Campus Drive and are on the slope east of Mercer will remain open. Access to and from the north end of Willard will be routed east around the building towards Monroe Hall.

Sunken Road Lot #13 (South End) – As part of the renovations to Woodard and Mercer Halls, W.M. Jordan will be using the southern end of this lot (approximately 37 spaces) for their laydown area, including the construction trailer. Only W.M. Jordan and their subcontractors will be using this area for parking of their service vehicles and/or storage containers.
