UMWAlerts To Announce Weather Closings or Delays

The following message is from theDivision of Administration and Finance:                            

Beginning today, Monday, February 16, the University will notify the UMW community about inclement weather closings or delays through the UMWAlerts system, providing the new option to receive weather updates via text.

UMW Alerts is the university’s emergency communications system. Registered members have the option to receive emergency and weather-related updates via text and email.

If you are a student or member of the faculty or staff and have not registered, please go to http://www.umw.edu/alerts and provide your name and email address. After you submit the information, you will receive a message from Christopher Cash in Emergency Management and Safety inviting you to create an account. Once the account is created, please log in to the site and follow the instructions to customize how and in what order you prefer to receive the emergency notices. Please make sure to save your changes.

Updates regarding weather conditions will continue to be available through the following platforms:

Every effort will be made to post inclement weather announcements by 6 a.m. on the day of closing or delayed opening. A decision about evening class changes will be made by 3 p.m. on the day in question. Students, faculty and staff are urged to check these communication outlets periodically for up-to-date information. When the weather conditions permit return to normal operations following a closure or delay, that information will be disseminated as stated above.
