Campus-Wide Food Drive Nov. 6-13

Campus Dining and the UMW Athletic Department, with the support of the UMW Staff Advisory Council and UMW Bookstore, are sponsoring Sodexo’s tenth annual “STOP Hunger” campus and community wide food drive from Nov. 6-13. The goal this year is to collect 25,000 pounds of food, or more than five times the 4,729 pounds of food donated last year. Helping us in this effort are the local YMCA, radio station 99.3 The Vibe, LifePoint Church, Fredericksburg Baptist Church, Food Lion, Giant Food and several area schools and community organizations. All donations will go to the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank.

The UMW Staff Advisory Council, recognizing that hunger is a daily disaster and not just a seasonal need, began their “One Can Hope” food drive earlier this fall and will continue it through Dec. 18. Since all of their donations also go to the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank, they have generously agreed to add any donations they receive between Nov. 6 and 13 to our “Stop Hunger” food drive campaign.

The Athletic Department is also participating in a conference-wide food collection competition, which has been won for the last several years by CNU. Our athletes hope to take first place this year, “Canning CNU” and securing recognition for our community’s generosity. They will be manning donation tables in front of the Giant Food store in Eagle Village and assisting with collections across campus throughout the drive.

We are also pleased that radio station 99.3 The Vibe is lending great support to the food drive. In addition to making public service announcements about the drive they will be broadcasting live and giving out prizes at our curb-side collection event on Nov. 6, and they will also provide a free “Vibe” party for the residence hall that brings in the most pounds of food per person in the hall.

We hope everyone in our campus community will contribute to the “Stop Hunger” food drive, providing much-needed food for many of our neighbors. Here are some of the many campus donation opportunities:
