The following message is from the Office of Student Affairs:
I am pleased to announce that starting January 11, 2016, the UMW Police Department and Office of Emergency Management and Safety have merged into the Department of Public Safety under the leadership of Chief of Police/Director of Public Safety Michael Hall. As part of the Division of Student Affairs, the Department of Public Safety’s primary mission is to provide a safe and secure environment for the University of Mary Washington community.
In addition to policing and campus security, the Department of Public Safety encompasses all areas of emergency management, including fire prevention and planning, chemical safety and hazardous waste management, and ongoing review and improvement of safety and security plans across the institution. Staff in the department will continue to play critical roles on various multidisciplinary committees, including violence prevention, threat assessment, behavioral intervention and crisis communication.
