The following message is from the Office of Public Safety:
To the campus community:
The UMW Alerts system is fully functional; however, one aspect of the Guardian app is dysfunctional — the tracking function. Until the vendor resolves this issue and ensures the app is providing the utmost personal safety and security, we are removing the Guardian app from service.
This problem in no way affects the ability of UMW Public Safety to alert our community in the event of an emergency. We hope to resume full service of the app in the near future and will provide updates.
Reminder: UMW Public Safety at Brent House is staffed around the clock. Anyone observing suspicious activity or unsafe conditions should call Campus Police immediately at 540-654-1025; alternatively, dial x444 from any University phone, or go to an exterior blue light station and press the call button. Additionally, anonymous tips or information may be reported to Campus Police via the Silent Witness web link. Also, for the safety of students, the UMW Police Department provides after-hours safety escorts.
We offer the following safety suggestions:
- Always be aware of your surroundings.
- Walk in well-lighted areas with friends or in pairs.
- Drink responsibly, do not leave other Eagles, and always have a plan for a safe ride.
- Be an active bystander by speaking up if you see or hear something.
