OntheSquareVA Fishing Challenge|October 8

Commonwealth of Virginia

Office of Governor Ralph S. Northam

August 24, 2018

Dear State Employees:

Last month Governor Northam announced he would host a fishing event at Claytor Lake in southwest Virginia as part of the OnTheSquareVA employee engagement program. That announcement included a survey in which we asked you to help us determine details of the event.

The response was great, and we’ve set the date for the OnTheSquareVA Fishing Challenge for Monday, October 8. This is the Columbus Day holiday, so most employees will not need to take leave to participate.

Details are available on the OnTheSquareVA website. Here is an overview:

  • Location:Claytor Lake State Park, Dublin, VA
  • Eligibility:State employees, retired state employees, and family members of state employees
  • Categories:Two-person boat-based teams; individual kayakers/canoers; individual shore-based anglers
  • Time:Challenge runs from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m., winners will be announced at 4 p.m.
  • Entry fee:There is no fee to enter; however, there is a fee to enter the park of $5 per vehicle or $7 for a vehicle with a trailer. The fee will be paid on site
  • Registration:Registration is limited to the first 50 boats, 50 kayaks/canoes, and 150 shore-based anglers. Registration information, and full event details, can be found at the OnTheSquareVA Fishing Challenge web page on the OnTheSquareVA.virginia.gov website under Special Events.

We hope to make this an annual event that would be held on different bodies of water around Virginia. Register today to take part in this first-ever event!

Sincerely,

Keyanna Conner

Secretary of Administration
