2019 UMW Employee Salary Increases

The Governor has approved both a base salary adjustment and a merit increase for classified employees, the first merit increase in over 10 years! In recognition of its hard working, loyal classified employees, UMW has decided to apply the merit increase percentage (2.25%) as a flat increase as opposed to a variable increase suggested by the state. This increase will be given to those classified employees who have 3 or more years of continuous state service.

In the future, if the state offers a merit increase, it is UMW’s intention to give variable increases based on employee evaluation ratings. The University wants to reward those whose work outcomes and efforts are truly outstanding in advancing UMW’s mission and values.

Going forward, it is vital for supervisors and employees to work together to ensure that EWPs are accurate, that performance evaluations are completed on time, and that performance evaluation ratings accurately reflect employee performance. These factors are always important, but when merit increases are a possibility, they are even more important.

All UMW classified staff, A/P faculty, full-time teaching faculty, and wage staff are eligible to receive a pay increase as described below:

Classified staff

  • Classified staff hired on or before March 10, 2019, and remaining employed as of June 10, 2019, will receive a 2.75% base pay increase effective June 10, 2019, provided they received an overall rating of “Contributor” or “Satisfactory” on their last performance evaluation or more recent interim evaluation.
  • An additional 2.25% merit-based salary increase will also be effective June 10, 2019, for classified employees with 3 or more years of continuous state service.

A/P faculty

  • A/P faculty hired on or before March 10, 2019, and remaining employed as of June 10, 2019, will receive a 3% base pay increase effective June 10, 2019, provided they received an overall rating of “Contributor” or “Satisfactory” on their last performance evaluation or more recent interim evaluation.
