University Communications Announces Retirement of Marketing Director Malcolm Holmes
The Office of University Communications announces the retirement of Director of University Marketing Malcolm Holmes. Please join us for cake and celebration on Monday, August 8, at 3 p.m. in the University Communications Suite (Eagle Village 300) to recognize his decade of service to Mary Washington.
Since joining UMW in 2013 and working under both Advancement and Admissions, Malcolm has established the University’s flagship social media accounts, increased engagement across platforms and developed annual marketing plans to increase awareness among target audiences. His dedication to advancing brand awareness is visible in every publication, ad and relationship he has created, and he notes that he’ll miss his Mary Washington colleagues the most.
Prior to UMW, Malcolm served for 19 years as director of marketing communications and public affairs at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, where he still teaches as an adjunct professor of communications. He also serves on a number of professional organizations, including the College Communicators Association of Virginia and Washington D.C., Public Relations Society of America, PRSA Richmond, Fredericksburg Public Relations Society, American Marketing Association and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc.
Malcolm has also served on several Mary Washington committees and councils, including the diversity task force, leadership council and marketing committee. His most recent accolades include 2022 Educational Advertising Awards for the Admissions Travel Brochure, Offer Packet, Viewbook and e-Brochure, as well as the Brand Introduction Brochure.
Malcolm’s retirement will be brief as he already has his next chapter planned. This fall, he’ll join Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication to serve as its executive director of strategic initiatives and diversity. His last day at Mary Washington will be August 12.
