Dear UMW Students, Faculty and Staff,
Every year, we update the Student Handbook online, which has important information about the policies and regulations on campus as well as resources and procedures to support the Mary Washington student experience.
Some policies and links have been updated with this latest edition of the handbook, so whether this is your first semester at UMW or you’ve been here many years, you’ll want to review the information. It is the responsibility of every student to know and follow the policies outlined in the UMW Student Handbook along with federal, state, and local laws.
Updates include:
- Clarifications in the Alcohol Policy and Drug Policy
- A revised name and formalization of the Amnesty Policy, previously called Safe Sammy, which addresses the risk of harm due to alcohol use, drug use, and hazing behavior
- Publication and policy posting for the Hazing Prohibition Policy
- Formalization, shared definitions and updates to the Posting and Chalking Policy
- Updates to the Student Conduct process including options for the type of hearings
The Honor Code, Title IX regulations, and Code of Conduct are also linked from the Student Handbook. Please review this information for updates and understanding of the procedural requirements as well as resources, should you need them. Each of these areas works to provide transparency and clarity, while allowing flexibility and a focus on the student experience throughout the process.
If you have any questions or concerns about the handbook, please contact studentaffairs@umw.edu.
Best,
Juliette Landphair, Ph.D.
Vice President for Student Affairs
