UMW will implement two new parking protocols in the fall semester of 2026
Faculty and staff permits are valid for two years through 2027. Student parking permits for the 2026-27 academic year will be available beginning August 1; students may purchase an annual decal online through the Self-Service Banner portal.
New College Avenue Parking Designation
Beginning in August 2026, the University side of College Avenue will be open to the following permit types from 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, spanning from the corner of William Street to Route 1:
- Off-Campus Student Permits
- Faculty/Staff Permits
- Contractor Permits
- Visitor Permits
All UMW Residential Students with a valid permit may only park on College Ave. between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. weekdays and on weekends. Look for street signage with these designations beginning in August to guide where you can and cannot park. Please also pay attention to City of Fredericksburg residential parking restrictions. Vehicles parked in violation of University regulations or City ordinances may be ticketed by the appropriate authority.
The complete list of lot designations is found on the Parking Management lot designation page. A parking map is available too. Residential students seeking long-term parking should use the William Street, Alvey Deck, Sunken Road, and Battleground lots. In addition to University permit requirements, all applicable state code parking regulations will continue to be enforced.
New Penalties for Repeat Violations
Beginning this fall, repeat parking violations will result in progressively higher penalties. Depending on the number and type of violations, consequences may include:
- Increased fines
- Referral for disciplinary action
- Removal of a vehicle from University property
Full details on the escalation structure and violation thresholds are available on the UMW Citation Fines page. These changes are intended to improve parking availability, encourage compliance with campus regulations, and make the best use of available parking resources. We appreciate your cooperation in helping maintain a safe, efficient, and respectful parking environment for everyone.
As a reminder:
- Accessible parking spaces are available in all open lots to any vehicles with DMV-issued accessible placards or license plates.
