Great Lives promo, Lyndon Johnson; The Free Lance-Star
UMW’s “Great Lives” series continues this week with a discussion of “Great Society” President Lyndon Baines Johnson. Former UMW associate professor of political science Stephen J. Farnsworth (currently teaching at George Mason University) will speak about the former Senate lion and vice president who was thrust into the presidency after the assassination of John F. Kennedy. LBJ ultimately decided to “not seek” the Democratic Party’s nomination for re-election in 1968, largely due to division in the country over the war in Vietnam.
