Keith Mellinger, associate professor and chair of the Department of Mathematics, saw his co-authored article “Semiovals from Unions of Conics” published in the most recent issue of Innovations in Incidence Geometry.  The article completely characterizes certain types of semiovals, special structures in finite geometries that  find application as cryptologic keys.

Mellinger presented part of this work as an invited speaker at the 14th annual Discrete Math Days conference in Fort Collins, Colo.

Richard Finkelstein, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and professor of English, published “The Comedy of Errors and the Theology of Things” in the spring issue of Studies in English Literature, 1500-1900.

The article looks at both theological and mercantile traditions to argue that Shakespeare sees participation in the marketplace as redemptive.

Throughout the summer, Campus Recreation will offer three yoga classes per week in the Goolrick Hall dance studios.

Beginning Yoga — Mondays from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m.
Yoga for participants with minimal yoga experience. This class focuses on learning the positions, breathing and stretching.

Advanced Yoga — Wednesdays from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m.
This class is designed for participants that have been practicing yoga for awhile. The class is challenging and fun.

TGIF Yoga — Fridays from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m.
This class is for everyone and is designed to help you get over the stress of the week and head into the weekend without the week’s burdens on your shoulders. The class focus is stress reduction, relaxation and feeling good about yourself.

The UMW College of Education is hosting the second annual EdTech Conference on Saturday, June 2, 2012 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Stafford campus. Today is the last day to register!

The conference will feature a keynote presentation by author John Hendron, who was named State Technology Leader of the Year in 2006 by the Virginia Department of Education, presentations from local teachers, university educators and technology specialists, exhibits, and student and teacher showcases.
