The HUB Theatre in Fairfax, Virginia will present a staged reading of Kristen LePine’s new play, “Dire Wolves,” on Thursday, May 24, 2012, at the Greater Reston Arts Center. The reading starts at 7:30pm, admission is free, and the Center is located at 12001 Market Street, Reston, VA.

“Dire Wolves” was commissioned by the HUB Theatre, and examines how quick changes impact personal identity as six people must either adapt and evolve or face the possibility of extinction.

LePine holds a Master of Fine Arts in Dramatic Writing from Humboldt State University. Her works have been presented various venues, including Active Cultures, Inkwell, Pinky Swears Productions, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Arts.

Don’t just take the word of Jennifer Hudson. Our own ‘best professor’ Warren Rochelle knows that UMW’s Weight Watchers@Work program is a great motivator! Not only is it convenient, WW@W is  less expensive than going to the center and includes eTools.  Since the program began in October 2009, UMW employees have shed thousands of pounds. And it’s one of the most successful WW@Work programs in the country!

Well, I said the same thing before I signed up for WeightWatchers@Work here at UMW and I am here to tell you: WeightWatchers DOES work!

Ive been losing weight steadily since January–halfway to my target weight!  And I couldn’t have done it without the support of the group here on campus–supportive, friendly, lots of good advice about healthy, good things to eat, and suggestions on ways to incorporate exercise into your routine–and funny.  This WeightWatchers group likes to laugh!

So, a new session starts on May 30–drop by then, or May 23, and gather information:
The Red Room, noon.
Be ready to laugh and get started on not just losing weight, but a healthier way of living.

Four papers by undergraduates in the College of Arts and Sciences will appear in an upcoming issue of the online journal “Metamorphosis.” The journal is a publication of COPLAC, the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges. 

The papers include “The Language of Rape: Margaret Mitchell’s Defense of Spousal Rape in Gone with the Wind” by Shirin Afsous (faculty advisor: Gary Richards), “Media Coverage of Iraq and Iran: Decoding the Warpath of a Democracy” by Ryan Hayes (faculty advisor: Stephen Farnsworth), “Sex, Luxury, and Power: The Stereotype and Perceptions of Ottoman Imperial Harems in the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries” by Sara Krechel (faculty advisor: Nabil Al-Tikriti) and “Das nationalsozialistische Deutschland und das Abstammungsargument”[National-Socialist Germany and the ancestral argument] by Anne Zimmerman (faculty advisor: Marcel Rotter).

The Fitness Center will be open from 3 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 17 and Friday, May 18. The facility will be closed on Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20.

Summer hours begin Monday, May 21. During the summer, the Fitness Center will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
