Lawyers, a corporate VP, a policy maker, a current law school student, and more will share their stories and answer questions at the Legal Eagle Alumni Career Panel this Thursday, November 10. The panel session, sponsored by Career Services and Alumni Relations, will begin at 7 p.m. in Lee Hall, Room 411.

Panelists will include Daniel Steen ’84, Rector of the UMW Board of Visitors; The Honorable J. Martin Bass, Judge in the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit of Virginia; and Caitlin Robb Kelly ’06, Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Richmond. Also, Heather Mullins Crislip ’95, Special Assistant for Policy Programs at The Miller Center at The University of Virginia; Mark Graybeal ’05, Associate with Pesner, Kawamoto, Conway PLC; Anna Markham Sanders ’02, Former Associate at Dow Lohnes PLLC; Chris Winslow ’01, Attorney at Law at the Law Office of Christopher M. Winslow, PLLC; and Brian Wall, Assistant Dean for Admission at Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary will participate.

Artwork by Anne Timpano, Director of UMW Galleries, has been chosen for inclusion in two current exhibitions, “Gendered Images: The Feminine Divine” (Sept. 8-Dec. 16, 2011) at the Doug Adams Gallery of the Bade Museum in Berkeley, CA, and “Coming Out of the Closet: Clothing Art as an Emergent Form” (Nov. 5, 2011-Feb. 26, 2012) at the Brogan Museum of Art and Science in Tallahassee, FL.  The latter exhibition is accompanied by an exhibition catalog, which includes images and curatorial commentary.

Timpano’s work borrows the figure of Venus from Botticelli’s Birth of Venus (ca. 1485) and reinvents it in a modern context.  The works on exhibit include Venus as Paper Doll, a linocut print that explores the role of women in society, and the Consumermania Series, six individual mixed-media paper dolls that are intended as commentary on our consumer-oriented society and the ease with which consumers can be manipulated.

For years, Bill Miller’s music has moved audiences around the world. An icon of the Native American music community, Miller has won three Grammys in the last four years. Through music and discussion, Miller illustrates the relationship between majority and minority cultures. Instead of teaching tolerance and assimilation, he promotes a redemptive culture of understanding and peace.

The Sabbath is the day of rest for the Jewish community that begins at sundown on Friday and continues until three stars appear in the sky on Saturday night. During this time Jews abstain from labor of any kind and spend the day with families and friends. Traditionally, Jewish families commence the Sabbath with Shabbat dinner on Friday night. Come and enjoy a traditional Shabbat dinner and learn more about this weekly tradition.
