Debra Schleef Named Associate Provost for Institutional Effectiveness and Analysis
Dr. Debra Schleef, who has been serving as Interim Assistant Provost for Institutional Effectiveness and Analysis since October 2016, will assume this role on a permanent basis effective June 25, 2018, and will become Associate Provost for Institutional Effectiveness and Analysis.
Dr. Schleef was appointed to the position of Interim Assistant Provost after an internal search was conducted in fall 2016, and over the past 18 months she has provided outstanding leadership on our institutional assessment efforts, in addition to managing the on-going institutional research and reporting functions of that office. Having started at Mary Washington in 1999 as a professor of Sociology, Dr. Schleef has served as Chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology from 2007-2014, Chair of the University Faculty Council from 2012-14, and Co-Chair of the committee for the 2020 UMW Strategic Plan.
Dr. Schleef earned her B.A. in sociology from Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in sociology from Northwestern University. In 2016 she was awarded the J. Christopher Bill Outstanding Faculty Service Award. Her scholarly work is firmly grounded in research methodologies. She has written and administered dozens of small and large-scale surveys in a variety of formats and settings, and taught courses in quantitative research methods and advanced research methods in Sociology for over twenty years.
