Faculty/Staff Dining Room Opens in Chandler Ballroom, Sept. 19

The following message is from the Vice President of Administration and Finance:

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that a new Faculty/Staff Dining Room will open on Monday, Sept. 19, in the University Center.  The location will be in a section of the Chandler Ballroom, located on the first floor of the building. The hours of operation will be 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The regular lunch cost will remain $6 for faculty and staff.

I hope that this space will promote faculty and staff camaraderie and foster the sense of community that is such an important attribute of Mary Washington. Food service will be buffet-style, initially served using chafing dishes on tables. Eventually the room will feature mobile buffet units, which are being ordered but will take up to 10 weeks to be delivered.

Please note that there will be a few times during the year when the entire ballroom will be needed for a major University event.  The Faculty/Staff Dining Room will not be available on the following dates: Sept. 22 (Graduate School Fair); Sept. 27 (COAA VA Conference); Oct. 4 (Catering Showcase); and Oct. 7 (rain location for Rocktoberfest).

Due to the need to maintain access control, those who choose to eat in the Faculty/Staff Dining Room may not also utilize the fourth floor dining area options or bring food items from one dining area of the building to another.

Small Purchase Procedures

UMW’s Small Purchase Procedures have been updated and are now posted on the website. Review them here.

eVA Sign On

University users may now access eVA using UMW single sign-on. From the login page, select “Log in with your agency account.” Contact Procurement at x1127 if you have any difficulties.

Customer Satisfaction Surveyseptember-eupdate

The results are in! For FY16, the Procurement Team achieved an overall 94% customer satisfaction rating, with 100% in timeliness, accuracy, communication, helpfulness, and expected cost. Thank you to all who completed the survey.

Annex A Removal

The removal of Annex A is complete. Special thanks to Dale Elethorp who championed the surplus of the unit and coordination of the removal with King George Public Schools. Thanks to others at UMW who supported the process: David Wilt, Jonathan Moore, UMW Grounds, Parking, Facilities team, and a host of others. Annex B will soon become our next focus!

Bookstore

UMW Book Club

The UMW Book Club will meet at noon on Wednesday, September 21, in the Bookstore to discuss Great Falls, and YA novel by Steve Watkins. Visitors are welcome! Contact Margaret Mock in the Bookstore for more information, x1017.

IDA Classes

The Bookstore is continuing to explore options for Inclusive Digital Access (IDA). The program focus is on lowering course material costs for students, improving access, and enhancing learning outcomes. This semester, Professors Steven Greenlaw and Allyson Poska are participating in Phase II of the project. The student course material cost in Professor Greenlaw’s class will be $20, an estimated savings of $246 based on the average cost of other Econ 201 course materials, and $85 for Professor Poska’s class, a savings of $115. The cost of materials will be billed directly to the student’s UMW account (unless they opt out of digital selection). The Bookstore looks forward to working with faculty to expand Open Education Resources/IDA opportunities for students.

Classified Performance Planning and Evaluation

To Classified Employees’ Supervisors and Classified Employees:

The Classified Performance Planning and Evaluation period has begun.

Please refer to the Classified Employees Performance website for Information, forms and guidance on completing the Employee Work Profile (EWP) and Performance Evaluation Form.

Timeline:

2015-2016 Classified Performance Evaluations and 2016-2017 Employee Work Plans are due to the Office of Human Resources no later than October 24, 2016.

Performance Evaluation Form

Please download the Performance Evaluation Form directly from the website to ensure you are completing the correct version of the form.

Self-Assessment Formats

There is a self-assessment section on the Evaluation Form for the employee to complete. The supervisor may designate a different format for the employee to use when completing their self-assessment.  Completing the self-assessment in a narrative format is recommended to provide an affective and detailed description to the supervisor.

  1. Use Firefox or Chrome (not Internet Explorer) and access:  http://covkc.virginia.gov/umw.
  2. Use your UMW credentials; these may not be the same credentials that you use for other UMW systems.
  3. Search for the course.  Enter UMW, performance, 2016 in the Search box (above the blue bar, on the right side).
  4. Choose UMW 2016 Classified Performance Management.
  5. Select the section that you wish to attend.
  6. Click Enroll.
