In only its second year, the organizers of the University of Mary Washington’s Relay For Life charity anti-cancer fundraiser were determined not to fall into a sophomore slump. By all indications yesterday, they succeeded. Battling common organizational difficulties and a last minute change of venue, the organizing committee behind the event had raised at least $63,000 when the relay began at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 2. That’s almost double the $32,000 the UMW Relay raised last year. Even more money would be raised during the event as various teams sold baked goods and other trinkets for the cause.
