The  On-Call and Call Back Compensation Policy (E.3.9.5.) was adopted Jan. 9, 2014. The policy will be effective Jan. 16, 2014. The purpose of the policy is to establish guidance for compensating employees who are scheduled to be on call and/or to return to work in response to emergency or essential work situations related to his or her official duties and responsibilities.

UMW introduced two new policies in November 2013:

The policy on Ethical Business Practices (E.2.9.4.) was adopted Nov. 15, 2013. The purpose of the policy is to create a community dedicated to the highest standards of scholarship, professional integrity, and ethical conduct. The University recognizes its duty to uphold the public’s trust and confidence by adhering to applicable laws, regulations and acceptable standards of ethical behavior in the conduct of business operations. The University’s integrity and reputation are in the hands of its employees. Each employee contributes to the overall success of the University of Mary Washington by conducting University business in accordance with applicable policies and procedures. You will find the policy in Book E, Administration and Finance, under Section 2, Finance. View the policy here.

The  Animals on University Property Policy (E.3.9.4.) was adopted on Nov. 9, 2013. The purpose of the policy is to provide rules and regulations concerning bringing animals on university property. You will find the policy in Book E, Administration and Finance, under Section 3, Human Resources. View the policy here.

The University of Mary Washington 2013 Holiday Party theme is The Winter Parade: A Celebration of Floats! Each department has the opportunity to decorate a miniature Red Radio Flyer wagon as their “float,” which will be displayed at the holiday party on Dec. 13, 2013. Departments are also encouraged to fill their wagons with children’s toys, which will be donated to local toy charities after the party.

A limited supply of miniature wagons is available. Please pick up your wagon from the Office of University Events and Conferencing in George Washington Hall, Room 111, by Friday, Nov. 22. Wagons should be dropped off in the Rappahannock Grand Ballroom in the Jepson Alumni Executive Center between 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12. If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Events at 540/654-1087.

Note: After the holiday party, the wagons and toys will be donated to local toy charities for needy children in our area. Please let the Office of University Events and Conferencing know in advance if any of the decorations or toys in your wagon are not donations and should be returned to you.

Alzheimer’s disease is the single largest unaddressed public health threat facing the nation today. As many as 5.4.million Americans are living with the disease and nearly 15 million are acting as caregivers.

The number of Americans with Alzheimer’s disease is skyrocketing. The baby boomer generation is growing older — and age is the greatest risk factor for developing Alzheimer’s.

The Office of University Events and Conferencing is holding a raffle to support the Walk To End Alzheimer’s, which will take place on Saturday, September 28 on the Fredericksburg campus.
